Transforming communities through aid, relief and emergency help

CFI workers are always looking out for the wider needs in the community. In a country like India, where there are many crises and tragedies with little or no Government assistance, there are many opportunities to care for others. Floods, cyclones, droughts, landslides, earthquakes, and terrorist bombings are common for many people living in Asia, adding great distress to their already challenging lives. When disaster strikes, the CFI workers reach the place and help the people who are in problem
Having thousands of workers already on the field, CFI is able to respond quickly to disasters. In turn, each of these workers is able to mobilise their local community to assist the needy.
Through the help and partnership of people like you we have been able to care for thousands who became homeless through tsunami, and other tragedies. We are able to provide effective care for the emotional, spiritual and practical needs of the people.

PasterSadok Kumar, a passionate young man graduated from CFI Transformation Centre, Chhattisgarh in 2010. He went on to serve the people in his village and became blessing for many people. His wife too joined him in serving the people.

Things were going well and good, however when Sadok started to suffer from tuberculosis, things started to fall apart. The family even had to mortgage the piece of land they had to pay for the medical treatment.

This debt kept on increasing. The condition of Sadok though did not improve and eventually he passed away on 25th August 2012. The family lost the loved one and was shattered.
Yet Premsheela, Sadok’s wife was determined to continue the good work they had started in the village. She had no financial help to take care of her family yet she hoped for the good.
CFI always stood to help the family in every possible way. A contribution of 80,250 was given to Premsheela to pay off the debt. They got land back. Now she is very happy and serving the people of that village.

Narayanpur and Parvatipur Relief Camp

CFI always reaches out to the places where people are in need. Thus on 20th November, we were able to help 225 families with our relief package at Narayanpur and Parvatipur.
My family consists of 6 members and I don’t have any property of my own. I have lost all my belongings in the cyclone. The short supply of relief materials I received from the government was not sufficient to meet the needs of my family. I am very much thankful to CFI for their help in my bad situation for my familysays a grateful Prafulla Das.

Boxipalli Relief Camp

CFI also works among fishermen community. On 27th Nov, 2013 we were able to go to village named Boxipalli. They are fishermen community, generally from the state of Andhra Pradesh who have migrated to Odisha long ago.
During the cyclone all of them lost their livelihood. Their fishing boats, nets and other accessories were torn and broken beyond repair. There is a visible apathy from the part of the government in addressing the needs of the villagers because of their dual citizen ship and due of their poverty stricken state.
CFI is able to help 120 families in the village with the Relief Package. The village did not receive much attention from the government or from other Relief distribution agencies, and in this situation we could make a difference.
I am so delighted and express my heartfelt thanks to CFI for coming to our aid and support during our critical situation. I have four children and we don’t have any clothes. I was so worried about the approaching winter and the protection of my children’s health, and God through CFI supplied me warm clothes and I have no words to tell you how grateful I feel. God bless you all, with great joy” said B. Kamaya a widow from Boxipalli.

HarijanSahi Relief Camp

The name HarijanSahi itself describes the low status of the people living in the village. The name “Harijan” mean “People of God.” It is Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation who endowed this name tag to the down trodden people who belong to the lowest strata of the society according to the Caste System of India.

CFI is able to help 155 families living in the village which is near to our office in Gopalpur.

On 29th Nov, 2013 with the help of the village committee and local leadership, we distributed our relief materials to the victims.

The village has a mixed population of poor Hindus and Muslims and for the team members of CFI

“It was a wonderful opportunity for us to exercise Christ’s love during relief distribution.”

Mrs. SantoshiBeheraa villager of HarijanSahi was so excited and happy to receive relief assistance. With much happiness she expressed that “No one can give like CFI gives and their heart is different from others.

” Not only she, all the villagers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to CFI for the unconditional help.

It’s been a month since Cyclone Phailin swept Odisha. Still people are struggling for survival. Needs are so huge. They require our love, care and counselling to restore peace in their heart.
CFI could help so many lives during the most terrible situation of their lives. The 17 districts are totally shattered. 500,000 acres of agriculture and cultivation have been destroyed, 200,000 coconut trees, boats and fishing net and all other tools of labour either torn or broken beyond repair.

Huts and settlements grounded. But the people are regaining their spirits through the assistance we provide to them. Our initiatives fuels in them hope and strength to start dreaming over again for good days ahead.
