| Mass Marriage |

| CFI’s involvement in the social development of the weaker communities in Indian society is a great effort. Uplifting the downtrodden and extending helping hands towards them to make their lives better is one of the major concerns of CFI. Mass Weddings is one of the efforts that CFI has found to restore poor, illiterate and disadvantaged women into the security of a loving family through marriage. 5th November 2013 was a joyful day for 11 young couples in Amritsar as they were united in the sacred bond of marriage. These couples had been waiting to get married but because of the wretched condition of their families could never afford a wedding ceremony. “Thanks to CFI for making this day come true, my parents could never afford such a good marriage. Conducting my marriage and starting a new household was a big question mark for me. But CFI has added inexplicable joy in my life” These were the touching words of Suman who was married to Banarasi on this auspicious day. |
| The Propitious Occasion |
| The couples are united in the sacred bond of marriage. It’s a happy time to see the young couples taking oaths to be together till the end. The marriage of 11 couples at a time was conducted. Suman a semi orphaned girl’s happiness had no bonds when she was united with her soul-mate Banarasi which was no less than a dream comes true for her. “When I was very young I lost my father and it was my mother who brought me up working hard to meet all the needs and necessities of the family. Living in a joint family somehow our needs were met but marriage was a great challenge for my mother. As I grew little older my mother’s right side got paralyzed and she had to stay in the bed for most of the time. She was unable to work and I had to give up my schooling after my basic schooling. I kept growing and my mother’s worries too. Her health kept deteriorating thinking about my future and marriage. It was during those days my uncle Mr.Yakub who is a CFI staff lifted my mother’s spirit by counselling her and encouraging her. After few days he came with a Great News for the family by saying that CFI is going to conduct a Mass marriage in Amritsar, Punjab. I and mother were very happy. All things went well and by the grace of God now I am happily married. Thank you CFI and I believe that in the near future many more girls will be blessed through what you are doing for the needy communities.” Now Suman is very happy with her husband Banarasi’s place. He too is very happy for all the love and support CFI has shown towards them. He says, “I am an illiterate and a mason by profession. Coming from a very poor family my parents could not afford my marriage. I have three brothers and my father was in debt after conducting my elder brother’s marriage. It would have taken a decade for me to arrange the marriage. But thanks to CFI for their concern towards poor people and especial for the gifts they have given us to start a new household.” The couples get a Double bed, pedestrian fan, pillows, blankets and a sewing machine as a good luck for their future life. |
| CFI’s efforts to uplift the weaker sect: |
 CFI always had a concern towards the marginalized and dejected women of Indian society. Through our workers CFI reaches to the slums and dark corners of the city. From these locations ladies in vulnerable and disadvantaged situations are rescued and restored to local churches.The goal is to resist exploitation of innocent women, to avoid births outside marriage and to create a society which realizes marriage as a right of every woman regardless of their financial capacity, caste or colour of the skin. CFI determined to conduct mass marriages in different parts of India because of the huge gender discrimination and oppression of women that takes place on a large scale regardless of caste, religion and culture. It proved worthy as happiness came into the lives of eleven young women in Amritsar Mass Marriage. “It is a remarkable step taken by CFI to colour a beautiful tomorrow of dejected girls in the remote villages of Punjab. |
